Professor Dato' Wira Mohd Shukri Ab. Yajid is a prominent figure in the Malaysian higher education scene. He is the founder of two Malaysia's leading private institutions of higher learning - the PTPL Group of Colleges and the Management & Science University (MSU). Much of the success and achievements of both PTPL and MSU stem from his passion for quality education and the desire to create a strong synergy between the industry and the academic.
His expertise and viewpoints on matters relating to education development and policies are often sought after. His appointment by the Malaysian government to the several committees on education is a further testimony of his dedication and commitment towards the uplifting of the standards of Malaysia's education locally and internationally. Among these committees are the National Implementation Task Force (NITF) and the Human Resources Cluster Working Group (CWG) committees which were under the auspices of the Prime Minister's department. He also serves as a board member for the National Higher Education Fund (PTPTN).
As a true philanthropist, Professor Shukri's commitment towards ensuring the less fortunate and the financially challenged received equal access to education is exemplary. Over the past 20 years, RM30 million have been spent through MSU and PTPL scholarships and joint scholarship schemes with various local bodies. More that RM 3 million is spent yearly providing the much needed funds for continuing education for the needy. The establishment of the MSU Foundation (Yayasan MSU) is also another of Professor Shukri's initiative in the enhancement of excellence in education.
His effort at ensuring the positive involvement between the public and private sectors speaks volume. Under his stewardship, MSU and PTPL have played a consistent role in several schools and community development projects in Malaysia. Among these projects were the personnel development programmes for school counselors and teachers, the learning system technology under the School Management System programme and the promotion of IT applications in schools.
Professor Shukri was conferred the "Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang" (DIMP) 2002 by His Royal Highness The Sultan of Pahang, the "Dato Setia Diraja Kedah" (DSDK) 2006 and the "Darjah Gemilang Seri Mahkota Kedah Yang Dihormati" (DGMK) 2009 by His Royal Highness The Sultan of Kedah respectively.
Satu-satunya IPTS milik sepenuhnya Bumiputera, saya amat mengagumi beliau....
